Through the SGAP Hope Rising Foundation (HRF) is helping High School students to pay for their graduation examination fees. Currently public secondary schools in Imo State, Nigeria, are tuition free. However, they are charged to register for the secondary schools certificate examinations conducted by either the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or the National Examinations Council (NECO), which they take at the end of their studies. Without successfully completing these exams, they will not be admitted into any college or seek a job corresponding to their level of education. It is, therefore, very important for these students to sit for these exams. Some are prevented from doing so for lack of financial support. This situation was brought to the attention of HRF by a staff of one of the local schools in Imo State, Nigeria, during a meeting of the board of directors of the affiliate organization in Nigeria, Lucent Esperanza Development Initiative (LEDI) in January 2o18. Action was taken right away and five indigent students were the first beneficiaries of the program. The foundation hopes to continue providing this support to indigent students as long as the need exists. HRF was able to support the first set of beneficiaries from the sale of hand crafted devotional crosses. We rely on public support to be able to help such needy students. It costs a student about a hundred dollars ($100) to register for these exams. Your donations towards this cause will be duly appreciated.
